Hey all, right around the time that I installed the Beta, I started getting this error when trying to open a KS file. I have tried to re-install KS, but not a clean install, just over the top of the current install. I have so many custom materials, models, colors, and shortcuts that it would be a nightmare starting from scratch. I know I can copy all my stuff onto my desktop and put them back, but this doesn’t sound like a KS issue maybe? I can open file from within KS, using the open file dialoge, but just double clicking a file in File explorer ( in this case Directory Opus, which is FANTASTIC BTW) I get this error. its like it can’t find the exe of ks to hand it off to. I’ve always installed KS “just for me” and the exe is actually in the directory its trying to find it in.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

Hey Matt - I shared your post with our Support & QA team and we should get you someone to look at this ASAP. If you need immediate help, please file a support ticket: Submit a ticket : KeyShot (freshdesk.com)
Otherwise, we’ll get someone to help you as soon as we can. Thanks!
Bit of a rough guess but I think this has to do with Directory Opus and not KeyShot. Someone here had the same using Directory Opus: Procedure Entry Point Errors After Upgrading to 12 - Help & Support - Directory Opus Resource Centre (dopus.com) So maybe a reinstall of Directory Opus does the trick for you as well.
Never heard of it but looks quite handy, cool it’s roots go back to the Amiga, sweet memories. Was the first actual computer to enter our home, 1986 I think.
thanks both, Oscar points for searcing that. I did read about it, and did a complete wipe and re-install of a fresh copy of DO, and it did not resolve it. I have not done a clean install of keyshot yet, no time for that yet, in the middle of a lot of projects, so that will have to wait. Fortunatly its not a show stopper, but just hope it doesn’t keep getting worse.
i should have tried to open a file while I had DO uninstalled, but I sped past that and installed it again. Might try it after hours if I get a chance to.
Yeah, there is nothing in our bug database referring to an Entry Point error, so I would assume at this point that Oscar is correct, that’s it’s a conflict with Directory Opus. I would agree probably un-installing DO and seeing if the issue is still there would be the way to prove the issue.
Righto everyone, I’ll uninstall DO and see what happens. Thanks!
OK, did a clean wipe of Directory Opus and I’m still getting the error. Next would be a complete wipe of KS11 and the beta and see if a reinstall works. I’ll keep you posted.
Solved. uninstalled DO, and it still got the error. backed up all my KS11 directories, deleted DO, and uninstalled KS11 and KS2023 (2023 doesn’t do a clean uninstall, BTW, it leaves the folder in the Documents folder. Uninstall should remove everything)
Reinstalled KS11, and now it works. Reinstalled DO, and it works. So, soemthing goofy happened at some point, not sure where. I’ll update if anything else changes.
Thanks everyone!

Nooo!
I normally agree but that’s where it also put my renders, downloaded materials and animations if I forget to change the path
But you are doing an uninstall, isn’t ehpoint to remove everything? If I uninstall an application, I don’t want any traces of that app left, either because I don’t want it anymore, or I’m trying to troubleshoot something like this and I don’t want any files left. I like actually having the shortcut to the library on my desktop, its a quick way to access it, but for an uninstall I want it all gone. I know windows apps are normally horrible for just spraying files all over the place and leaving them when uninstalled.

I get your point and totally agree that a lot of uninstalls keep traces everywhere, like in the appData folder, registry etc. But the Documents folder is basically a documents folder for the user. For example games will put also their save games in My Documents/My Games, uninstalling a game won’t uninstall the saved game files so you can continue where you’ve been.
I wouldn’t mind if KeyShot would delete the default library but since it’s also the default location it saves basically every render a user creates it would mean a lot of upset users I think if it would delete those. But I think that location is also not really the right default place to save user generated things.
I can imagine people installing ‘KeyShot 2023’, seeing KeyShot 11 in their Document folder a few months later and just delete it not realising that’s also where your own content is. Think it would be smarter the default save path was not in that very same directory.
Adobe programs also leave a lot of traces but if you uninstall them they ask if you would keep the preference files. They are not located in My Documents but can be useful if you install it either again, or change version which will convert the older found preferences.
I don’t like shortcuts on my desktop but I make them project based in quick access. Basically the library I never access from desktop, I also don’t want my files to end up in that folder but well, they do now and then if I don’t change the path. But I agree that uninstall leaves traces with a lot of programs. Not only with Windows but MacOs does the same, it’s just way better in hiding them.
For KS it’s maybe an option to make the removal of the documents folder optional with the uninstall. Including a big warning since there is a chance you loose renders you create and the downloads. Maybe that’s the best of both.
Hey
Matt was right, there was indeed an issue with the uninstaller. This should be fixed now, so look out for the next beta update.
As for the point Oscar made, you actually do have the option to select what the uninstaller removes. If you make sure to not check off on “delete user content”, you should keep your Animations, Material Template, Renderings, Scenes and Scripts folder.
